The National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) led 800, female 450, workers of Tejgaon Textile Limited (TTL) to win victory.
The crisis to workers TTL workers was created recently when the owner of the factory decided close down it due to structural fault. Earlier, the ACCORD & Alliance engineers, after inspection, detected that the factory building has major structural fault, which is dangerous for workers safety. The workers fell in darkness of uncertainty since the closure would end up their employment while, there had been no guarantee of getting compensation money. The crisis multiplied since this is brewing at the advent of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of the world’s Muslim.
Some workers, who are familiar with the NGWF, came to the Federation office & complained to the leaders. The NGWF filed complains to the BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association), the apex body of garment factory owners of the country. The NGWF organized some demonstrations.
As an outcome of the campaign, there was a conciliation meeting between the factory owners & workers at 11:00am on 27.07.2016. Held at the BGMEA auditorium, the meeting was presided over by Legal Adviser of the BGMEA Abdul Mannan and attended by Managing Director of TTL Md Rafique, Director Md Taufique, senior officials of the BGMEA, NGWF President Amirul Haque Amin and 30 workers of the TTL.
