GARMENTS WORKERS MOURING AND PROTEST RALLY IN THE CAPITAL CITY DHAKA

GARMENTS WORKERS MOURING AND PROTEST RALLY IN THE CAPITAL CITY DHAKA
National Garmens Workers Federation brought out a Mouring and Protest Rally on 11 th August ,2000 in memory of 2 fellow women garments workers Miss Jahanara and Miss Mahfuja who were crushed under wheels of a Minibus during the Hartal(General Strike ) on 8 th Agust.This strike was called by the oposion party.And the minibus was hired by the muslemen of the government party - Whose were trying to invalid the strike. The 2 women workers were going to their garment .The hired minibus crushed the Jahanara and Mahfuja at 7,30 am when they were in street . Till now the owner of the minibus is not arrested . there is no proper investigation and compensation till now. The rally was started at 5,30 p.m.from Muktangaon and ended at paltan crossing after parading Baitul Mukarram, Gulistan, Fulbaria,High court and Topkhana road.
Before the rally there was a short gathering .Presided by Alam Kabir the gathering addressed among others Amirul Haque Amin, Mrs Shahida Sarker, Advocate Abed Raja, Mrs Razia Begum, Mrs Lovely Biswas, Mrs Parul Begum ,Arifa Akter and Mrs Nurun Nahar.
The speakers demanded arrest of the owoner of the minibus, Arrest of those muslemen- who hired the bus.They also demanded compensation from the government and the garment owner for the families of Jahanara and Mahfuja.
Several hundreads of garments workers joined in the rally with Black Flag.
